Supporting Local Charities: The Power of Financial and Emotional Investment

We feel that by supporting local charities we are helping to foster stronger communities, create meaningful connections, and promote social change. While financial contributions often come to mind first, emotional support plays an equally critical role in uplifting charitable organisations and the people they serve.

Last year, Boosters partnered with 4 local Cornish Charities to help them raise awareness via Social Media of the amazing work that they do – St Petrocs, Penhaligons Friends, CLEAR & The HUGS Foundation; over the course of 2024 we profiled them on our website, posted on our social media channels and even took part in events and attended open days, at the end of the year we also made a financial donation to each charity.

Why Supporting Local Charities Matters

Local charities are the backbone of communities, they address issues ranging from homelessness and hunger to education and environmental conservation. With local business support we help address the unique challenges the local community faces. Beyond solving immediate problems, local charities often work toward long-term, sustainable solutions, making your support an investment in a better future.

While money is essential, Boosters wanted to be much more than that, we want to be a help to the charities we support and we didn’t want it to just be financial we wanted our support level to outweigh money where possible; Here are some ways to provide emotional support:

Ten Tors Challenge (St Petrocs): The team took part in a hike across the beautiful Cornish scenery and raised additional funds and awareness to support the fight to eradicate homelessness in the Duchy.

Open Days: We attended several open days with the charities, The Hugs Foundation days were great and we met all of the superstar animals they help and learned so much more about the great work they do.

Quiz Nights: A team building night but also a chance to flex the grey matter all while raising valuable funds.

Introducing Our 2025/2026 Charity Partners

So, what do we do next – well we carry on and try to do more but to do this we’ve made a change, we have a Charity Partner who we will support and work alongside until December 2026 (when we will pick a new charity partner to work with for 2 years). For the initial 2 years this will be St Petrocs, while we supported them last year we feel there is more work to be done and we hope to continue the great start we made for 2 more years and see where we can get to then.

Who are St Petrocs?

One of many local charities making a significant impact is St Petrocs, based in Truro, Cornwall. This organisation is dedicated to ending homelessness in the region by providing support, accommodation, and advice to individuals experiencing housing insecurity.

St Petrocs offers a range of services, including emergency shelters, supported housing, and outreach programs that help people rebuild their lives. They also advocate for long-term solutions to address the root causes of homelessness, such as lack of affordable housing and access to mental health services.

By supporting St Petrocs, whether through financial contributions, volunteering, or raising awareness, we feel we can help combat homelessness and create a more inclusive community in Cornwall.

For 2025 we will also partner with Devon based Hugs Children’s Cancer Charity who will partner with us until the end of this year and then we will pick a new charity for 2026 and revolve that each year.

Who are Hugs Children’s Cancer Charity?

Another remarkable local organisation is Hugs Children’s Charity, based in Devon. This charity focuses on providing emotional and practical support to children with life-limiting illnesses and their families. Hugs works tirelessly to bring comfort and joy to families during incredibly challenging times, offering services such as respite care, family outings, and personalized support plans.

Hugs Children’s Charity also collaborates with healthcare providers to ensure families have access to essential resources and information. By contributing to Hugs, via financial and volunteering, we can help brighten the lives of children and families in need, showing them they are not alone in their journey.

So, what is Thirty by Thirty

Boosters pledge to support local charity with a minimum of £30,000 by the end of December 2029, this has already started with a contribution to the 4 Charities mentioned through our 2024 support, we now pledge that our charity partners will receive a minimum of £2,500 per year each until the end of 2029.

In addition, we will raise awareness of the charities via our Social Media platforms, volunteer at events held by the charities and basically do all we can to help more.
